Behind the seams | airbrushing tips, tricks, printing on fabric
Airbrushing experience is only limited to Alabama Chanin experience at the moment. Tips and tricks:
- A single phase gun is all that is needed; nothing special
- 30-40 psi pressure for airbrushing; my badger gun takes up to 55 psi.
- Online, people show that to clean an airbrush you fill up the jar with water/alcohol and spray it out several times. This is a bit annoying for me because you need to spray it onto something, then that something has to also dry somewhere. I just submerge the utensils in water so that the paint does not dry any where. I shake the paint out of the straw/tube, or blow it out with my mouth. It gets clean pretty easily.
- A hobby air compressor is all that is needed; it costed me around $80 from eBay that still goes up to 110 psi. It's a generic brand made in China. I was advised from the hobby store that it is better to get a compressor that has a seperate tank that stores the compressed air, and that automatically switches on/off to adjust to the air pressure you need. This is better for the machine. Also, at the end of each use, open up the plug to the unit that holds the air, let the air drain out, and leave it unplugged so that any moisture in there drains out.
- Wear a painter's mask while air brushing.
