Behind the Seams | Anna's Garden Long Skirt
Anna's garden long skirt #1 (first one). Very happy to trial this skirt for the first time. The shape is so elegant. Colour in the photo is NQR because it's a white LED light shining hard on it.
May need to strain/sieve paint next time to make sure that it doesn't have gluggy bits or overly thick bits. Just a thought. One thing I did not do this time was to drench/drown my airbrush straw/gun part in water every time I'm not using it. Big mistake. The straw is so thin, and the paint just builds up within it. Then it becomes so hard for the paint to pass through. I was swearing so much, the amount of effort spent on fixing this (it wasn't apparent to me at the time). The airbrush is almost a too sensitive tool. But worth it for the time it saves.
Almost no waste fabric (estimated 5% or less) because the stencil paint is _not_ done on grain. Even 90 degrees opposite grain for one panel. Because you're going to attach appliqué via running stitch per polygon. And then cut around it anyway. No matter what, it limits stretch within the polygon and then the stretch is retained outside the polygons.
Paint is supposed to be charcoal according to Alabama Chanin website swatches. Here mixed black and silver paint. Really good result. Faint, subtle pearl effect. Really beautiful. Also added blue and dark purple just for kicks, you can't really see it.
No spray adhesives used this time. Much easier to reposition x100. Fabric doesn't pull when lifting off stencil. Needed to position and re position thus stencil many many many times. Key is working on flat surface with non stretch cloth firmly attached to working surface. Then stencil also needs to have been stored flat. Then all you need is a skewer to pin down areas that you're airbrushing.
