Direct MX dye | more findings

Well well. Happy or not happy, Jan?

Did testing on idye FIXED fabrics. Ie it's been dyed with idye then fixed using idye fixative. On natural fibre 100% cotton jersey....

I boiled a string of floss for hours
5+ hours
Then same again next day for 3+ hours
I put a snip of white cotton jersey fabric in there to text colour changes
The good news is that the dye definitely does not come off totally. Majority is still on.
The bad news is that it does leak as all reliable sources have warned.
Direct mx dye is forever and ever infinity leaking in hot water.
Yes, the colour of the white snip of fabric did change. Both times. Lesser so during the second round of boiling.
Direct mx dye just loves to move around hot water environments.....

Second experiment
Washing my skirt in hot water
Yep dye discharges
Especially in hot soapy water - it really starts releasing in this environment
So uncool for washing clothes
So I gave it a fresh round of adding more fixative and it seemed to solve the problem?
Nay...
Once dried and resubmitted to washing in hot soapy water the discharge of colour was once again evident.
The white tag on the garment hasn't really been affected. So it does need a fair bit of soaking time with this low amount of dye colour in the bath to change the colour. But it does happen if soaked in a hot bath for long enough.

Therefore I have resigned to follow the instructions. Cold wash cold wash cold wash.
Now in big caps lock massive font written over the existing tag in a metallic silver sharpie.

It's back to procion mx and soda ash as the ultimate winner. But direct mx could be great for stuff like wall art. Or simply be a cold wash kind of person for clothing. (I alternated frequently between hot and cold water hand wash to test the direct mx skirt. It is clearly discharging colour the most in hot soapy water).  (Boo).
